3 men are buried up to their necks.
They all face in the same direction towards a brick wall, one in front of the other.
The two in the back are wearing black hats. The one in front - closest to and facing the wall - is wearing a white hat.
They have not been told - nor have they seen - which colour hat they have on their head.
There is a man standing by with a gun, who has a demand:
One of the three men must tell him what colour hat they are wearing on their head.
The rules:
- No one can speak, unless answering the question of what colour hat they are wearing.
- If someone is to answer incorrectly, all 3 people will be shot dead.
Which of the three men answers the question, and how does he know?

is there more info (ie. i assume they are told there is 2 black and 1 whate hat - becuase otherwise it would be impossible to answer)?
which if this is the case the v. obvious answer is that the dude in the back (who sees a black hat and a white hat) answers 'im wearing a black hat'...
... so have you told this right?
i have however heard one similar to this before, but thought it involved 4 people and a wall, with 3 of them on one side, 1 on the other and hats in alternating sequence... and the answer was the guy in the middle answered becuase the silence of the guy at the back meant that he had to be the alternative to the guy in front of him.
(something like that. although i realise that im the only person what i just said makes sense to)
